Description
Durango city is situated in the Guadiana valley in the heart of the State. Durango has often been called the “pearl of Guadiana”, and for good reason. Founded as “Villa de Durango” by Francisco de Ibarra on July 8th, 1563, walking through the historic center of Durango is like opening an architecture book. It boasts the largest number of historic buildings in the north of the country, earning Durango a spot on the route called the “Camino Real de Tierra Adentro”, or “Royal Inland Road”, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
You will enjoy an amazing drive along the new super highway Durango‐Mazatlan, where you'll be pleasantly surprised by its 61 tunnels, including 9 smart tunnels, and 115 bridges. Among these is the famous Baluarte Bridge, awarded by Guinness World Records as the world's highest. You will admire the superb scenery of the Sierra Madre Occidental. Once in Durango, you will have a guided tour of the historical center in typical transportation and a visit to the Museum of Pancho Villa.
